Becca Chapman, MAT, SEP (she/they)

Hi there! I’m Becca, and I’d be honored to explore the human wilderness with you!

I support those seeking to reclaim their sense of aliveness and agency, whether that means navigating stress, burnout, grief, major life transitions, or a general feeling of disconnection.

As a Somatic Experiencing® Practitioner as well as a Death Doula and Therapeutic Healthcare Clown, I offer a playful, compassionate space where movement, wonder, and imagination can gently guide the body back toward regulation and presence. Trauma work doesn’t always have to be serious; in fact, the willingness to not take ourselves too seriously often allows some of the most complex survival responses to finally complete themselves. Where is curiosity, trauma can not take hold (Peter Levine). Through gentle nervous system guidance, I help clients release pent-up survival energy and restore their natural capacity to self-regulate.

People working with Becca can expect:

  • Becoming aware of bodily sensations related to trauma

  • Allowing those sensations to move through the body within your tolerance level

  • Supporting the completion and integration of trapped energy or survival responses

Note: I am not a licensed mental health professional, and my services are not a substitute for psychotherapy, counseling, or medical treatment. If you’re seeking treatment for a mental health condition, I encourage you to browse the practitioners here at Tides Center for Wellness or consult a licensed provider.

About Becca

Born and raised in Chalmette, Louisiana, just eight miles outside New Orleans, Becca tries brings a uniquely joyful and grounded presence to every space she enters. She earned her BFA in Performance from The University of Southern Mississippi and later received a Master of Arts in Teaching from the University of New Orleans, becoming certified to teach 1st through 5th grade.

While actively performing in the New Orleans theatre community, Becca also spent a decade teaching at Trinity Episcopal School, a period marked by creativity and commitment, but not much sleep. As a classroom teacher, she prioritized making learning highly engaging, embodied, and connected to her students’ lived experiences. She continues to support young people through one-on-one tutoring that focuses on building confidence and a positive relationship to learning, and she co-writes and co-directs plays with students as a way of nurturing their voices and artistic agency.

Becca is the Co-Founder and Co-Executive Director of Prescription Joy, a therapeutic healthcare clowning nonprofit devoted to bringing humor and human connection into healing spaces such as hospitals, shelters, and long-term care facilities.

She is also a Certified Death Doula through Going With Grace and a Somatic Experiencing Practitioner offering SE-informed sessions at the beginning level that support nervous system regulation, play, and embodied resilience. She has a particular passion for supporting people who carry educational trauma and institutional trauma, creating spaces where learning, healing, and connection feel possible again.

At the heart of her work is a commitment to disrupting institutional cultures with joy, humor, and authentic human presence. She believes institutions often strive to operate like efficient machines when what they truly need is to function like living organisms, capable of balancing structure with vitality, care, and genuine connection.
